GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
Our group is always looking for ways to give back to the community.
Currently we are collecting pop can tabs for charity.
Our main focus for 2014 and 2015 had been making donations to Camp Get Away. This is a camp where children with mental health, emotional and behavioral disorders have had the opportunity to enjoy a safe, supportive and nurturing environment in which they can practice parenting skills while learning from each other without ridicule. It is our plan in 2016 to actually volunteer to help at the camp during our August campout.
We have also been strong supporters of the Operation Injured Soldiers where veterans are treated as individuals, working to provide unique opportunities and experiences that are tailored to their needs and their family. Operation Injured Soldiers is a tax exempt, Nonprofit organization founded in 2005. They provide recreation opportunities, free of Charge, to wounded military veterans of all eras as a “Thank You” for their service, and to aid in the recovery from physical and emotional injuries sustained during conflict deployments.
Another ongoing charity is the collecting of pop top tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Buffalo, NY. A recent visit was made to them with a bucket of pop top tabs.
During the 2016 NYS Good Sam Rally, we raised $160 for our charities and the monies were matched from our Treasury so that equal amounts could go to both Operation Injured Soldiers and Camp Get Away. In that same manner, we will be holding weekend raffles during our campouts the remainder of 2016 with the proceeds being split in October and sent to each organization.

During our August 2016 campout, several of our members volunteered during the second session of Camp GetAway. A check was presented to them for $160 which we raised at our Chapter Booth during the 2016 NYS Good Sam Rally.
On Thursday, February 24, 2017, Mike DeRose & Vice President, Richard Ward members of WNY Sam’s Camping Club visited Ronald McDonald House in Buffalo NY to donate a bucket full of pop top tabs. Approximately 12 pounds of tabs were donated, which Ronald McDonald house redeems for cash with a local metal collector, (Niagara Metals), where the tabs are weighed and they receive a check for the recycled aluminum. WNY Sam’s Club has been collecting pop tabs for 2 years, with the help of Errick Road Elementary School in Wheatfield NY. FUN FACT: a gallon milk jug holds roughly 4,000 tabs and weighs roughly 3.3lbs.
